Head of Operations.
Uba Ifeoma Scholastica is a distinguished electrical power engineer and technical operations leader whose career spans over two decades at the forefront of Nigeria’s electricity distribution sector. With a rare combination of deep technical expertise, operational leadership, and academic rigor, she has established herself as a formidable authority in power systems engineering, network reliability, and grid modernization.
Mrs. Uba’s journey into engineering excellence began with her foundational education at Himma Private Secondary School in Maiduguri, where she obtained her Senior Secondary School Certificate in 1995. She subsequently pursued her Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Maiduguri, graduating with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 2002. Her commitment to continuous professional development led her to the Federal University of Science and Technology, Owerri, where she earned her Master of Engineering in Power Engineering in 2016, equipping her with advanced analytical capabilities in power system dynamics and renewable energy integration.
Mrs. Uba’s professional trajectory reflects the evolution of Nigeria’s power sector itself. She commenced her career as a Graduate Engineer during her National Youth Service Corps at the Osogbo Steel Rolling Company in Osun State, where she gained hands-on experience in industrial power systems, including the maintenance of 20MVA power transformers and process control computers. Her industrial training exposures at the Nigerian Gas Company—spanning electrical maintenance at the Owaza Compressor Station and piping and instrumentation design at the Lagos headquarters—provided her with foundational insights into the oil and gas sector’s power infrastructure demands.
In January 2006, she joined the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Plc, the predecessor entity to Nigeria’s current privatized electricity distribution companies. As an Electrical Engineer at the Onitsha Business Unit, she spent seven years honing her expertise in power transformer installation, testing, and maintenance; energy meter commissioning; and the preparation of technical specifications and engineering drawings. This period proved formative, grounding her in the operational realities of Nigeria’s distribution network and the critical importance of technical standards and safety compliance.
The restructuring of Nigeria’s power sector in 2013 marked a pivotal transition in Mrs. Uba’s career. She was among the engineering professionals who transitioned to the newly privatized Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), where she has since built an exemplary record of technical leadership. Initially appointed as Protection Engineer at the company’s Protection, Control & Metering (PC&M) Headquarters in Enugu, she distinguished herself through meticulous execution of pre-commissioning tests, protection relay coordination, and SCADA system integration. Her proficiency with industry-standard tools—including Omicron CPC testing equipment, ETAP, and NEPLAN software—enabled her to conduct sophisticated reliability analyses and load flow studies that directly informed network investment decisions.
Her promotion to Network Manager in March 2014 represented recognition of her operational acumen and leadership potential. In this capacity, Mrs. Uba oversees the maintenance and repair of critical network infrastructure, including injection substations and high-tension distribution lines. She manages specialized equipment storage, directs load balancing initiatives to optimize power distribution, and bears responsibility for energy accounting metrics that directly impact the company’s revenue performance and operational efficiency. Beyond technical management, she has demonstrated notable capability in human capital development, building and mentoring teams of engineering professionals while championing safety initiatives across field operations.
Mrs. Uba’s technical contributions extend beyond operational practice into applied research. Her published work, “Reliability Evaluation of Power Distribution Network via Analytical Techniques and the Impact of PV Systems using ETAP,” appeared in the International Organization of Scientific Research (IOSR) Journals, demonstrating her engagement with contemporary challenges in grid reliability and renewable energy integration. She has further augmented her expertise through specialized training, including an in-plant Basic Power Protection Course and advanced Power Substation Automation System Training with NR Electrical Company Limited in China.
A registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mrs. Uba maintains the highest standards of professional ethics and technical competence. Her career exemplifies the trajectory of a modern power sector professional: grounded in rigorous engineering fundamentals, adaptive to sectoral transformation, committed to continuous learning, and dedicated to operational excellence.
